AI Ministry Resource Update

April 15th, 2009

What began as an unspoken dream and a silent prayer has now become a full blown ministry, proving God hears our thoughts and listens to our wildest of prayers. Forgive me as I reflect on the last four years and how God has brought something my way that only He could of done in the most beautiful and creative of ways.  As of today Denny and I and our ministry partners have had the privilege of meeting the needs of 9 American Idol contestants families affecting over 75 people with flights, lodging, meals on the road, meals in our home, game nights (Apples to Apples :) , rides to and fro, gasoline to make it from state to state, lots of prayer circles, scripture bracelets to remind of God’s love for them… all round good stuff.

A big thank you to:  Janet and Dave Brown, Nicole and Earl Reed, Dee Dee and Paul Dirks and their kids, Deborah and Gary Harter, Margie and Brad Fogal, Diana and Jerry LaMont, Suzette and Charlie Schafer for their faithfulness to this ministry.  Couldn’t do it without you… no way!

Prayer requests:  Please pray for Scott MacIntyre’s Sister Katelyn.  On Friday April 17th she will be having kidney transplant surgery.  Please pray for Katelyn’s and her donors quick recovery.  Continued support of Sophia’s Heart Foundation.

Below are some of my latest favorite pics…

Easter with the Fam

April 14th, 2009

Being a part of a Ministry family can take us all in different directions on Easter (Crossline, Coastline and Rock Harbor), but when all the chairs are put away we all made it back to home sweet home for good food, the Master’s and our traditional Easter Egg Hunt.  My parents even joined in the fun :-)  Praise Jesus for family!

Run don’t walk to see “The Cross”!

March 29th, 2009

Take your Friends to see “The Cross”!  Jesus’ name is lifted high with this true story!

Last Wednesday Denny and I had the privilege of attending the Premiere of the movie “The Cross”.  It opened in Theaters nation wide on Friday.  For me it was especially sweet because I was able to re-unite with an old friend.  I was one of Arthur Blessitt’s original Jesus Freaks in the early 70′s, enthusiastically marching down Van Nuys Blvd. up to Sunset Blvd. shouting “give me a J” and sticking his “reds” as he calls them or stickers with scripture on them on any flat surface we could find.

“The Cross” Producers Matt and Laurie Crouch did a fantastic job on this documentary telling the story of Arthur’s unbelievable journey.  You will laugh, cry and be astounded that this faithful servant is still alive to tell his story.  It brought back so many memories for me personally i.e. almost getting suspended from Cleveland High School for defaming school property with the “reds”…. oops, I was such a rebel :-)  Even remembering that, as a teenager, I had dated Arthur’s worship leader “Justin Time”, not a joke that is his real name!

Good News!  We will be awarding Arthur, his wife and Movie Producers Matt and Laurie Crouch at this years WELL DONE Awards.  Please find attached the poster that announces the 3rd Annual WDA at the Grove of Anaheim Sunday May 31st 2009 Tickets are a donation of $25.  The sooner you order your tickets the better the seats. Finally… new post!

March 23rd, 2009

It has been 15 days since my last post due to “computer photo adding issues” and then was sick for, going on, two weeks now.  But as you will see this cough and cold did not hold me back from having a full birth month.  My family party was a blast, Tea Party with Camy, Baseball games with Caeden, Emily’s 1st B-day, Beach House stay by Danny, Suzanne, Emmy and Jake from Lakepoint Church in Rockwall, TX, Visit by Jason, Betsy and Jackie Castro, Lunch with my Homies… Lysa, Terry and Claudine, Spa B-Day with my Girls… Brookie and Talie…. one of the best days of my life… really, a day uninterrupted with my girls… yipee! Denny and I enjoyed watching friends Jerry and Brenda Wilkinson’s son Keith win the National Championship for USC’s Basketball team…. how cool was that! :-) Fellow worship leaders with Danny Gokey at his church made a visit.  Destiny and Yadi drove 39 hours and stayed with us in Lake Forest… precious girls!  Great prayer time, Balboa Island Frozen Banana’s (my fav), Montage Resort visit, Josh Griffin (Youth guy at Saddleback Church) meeting at the Refinery, waved goodbye and sent them to stay with Diana Carreno so they could hang with Danny in LA.  They made so many new friends and went so many new places… back on the road again… be safe girls.  They will be back for the WELL DONE Awards and do back up… awesome.  So here are the pics to follow the words.

Celebrating my Birthday with Billy Graham

March 8th, 2009

Today is my 54th Birthday… I feel like I did when I got married at 19… so how is it possible that they keep trying to send me an AARP card… I just tear them up… denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

My parents are here and we will be having a great family meal together later, but it is what I did this morning that made my birthday.  I woke up at 4:00 am which was really 3:00 am due to day light savings time and once I was fully awake I did my devotions (below).  Even on a Sunday, when I knew I would be going to church.  You know some times I would slide on Sundays thinking church balanced it all out… do you do that too?  But God wants quiet time with us.  Alone time with us.  We  always hear it the other way around.  But actually He desires our full attention so He can whisper things to us and we can actually hear them.  You just never know what life is going to swing your way, but ever since I have been consistent with my devotions first thing in the morning I have been able to withstand better the unexpected side swipes that come my way.  Which, in every day, there are quite a few for all of us.  Life is a gift and so fun when lived on purpose and “On Assignment”!

Day by Day with Billy Graham for March 8th 2009

1 John 2:15 (TLB)

“Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God…”

There are certain elements of daily life which are not sinful in themselves but which have a tendency to lead to sin if they are abused.  Abuse literally means “extreme use” and in so many instances, overuse of things lawful becomes sin.  Ambition is an essential part of character, but it must be fixed on lawful objects and exercised in proper proportion.  Thought about the necessities of life and taking care of one’s family is absolutely essential; but this can generate into anxiety, and then, as Christ reminded us, the cares of this life choke the spiritual seed in the heart.  Making of money is essential for daily living; but money-making is apt to degenerate into money-loving, and then the deceitfulness of riches enters and spoils our spiritual life.  Much so-called worldliness in Christian circles is misunderstood.  You cannot confine it to a particular rank, walk or circumstances of life, and say that one person is spiritual and another is unspiritual.  Worldliness is actually a spirit, an atmosphere, an influence permeating the whole of life and human society, and it needs to be guarded against constantly and strenuously.

Thanks Billy…

Put on your Armor: Billy Graham Devotional

March 6th, 2009

Occasionally, like I promised, I will quote from my daily devotional:

“Day by Day” with Billy Graham.  Every day I read a scripture with his commentary and it helps me as a believer to put on the armor of God.  If I don’t do it first thing I get busy and before long I am watching TV, checking emails and drowning in the troubles of  this world.  When I do it first it gives me a whole different perspective of my day.

This was my reading for today March 6th:

Romans 10:8-13

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming; “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” For  there is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

“The heart is  the blood-pump of the body.  It is also used metaphorically when we speak of affections and feelings.  Since it is the central organ of the body and one of the most vital, the Bible speaks of it as the wellspring of life.  Hence, it is used synonymously with “life.”  When the Bible says, “give me thine heart,” it doesn’t mean that we are to cut out our actual hearts and give them to God.  It means that we are to give Him our lives, our all.  When we come to Christ, we are not only to give intellectual assent with historic Jesus, but if we have “saving faith” our belief must involve our whole being.  When we believe with all our hearts, the will, the emotions, and the intellect are surrendered to Christ.”

May you enjoy today as a true gift to be lived “On Assignment” for Him.

Kat McPhee’s Sis Adriana on Tour

March 4th, 2009

Denny and I spent last Friday night with the McPhee’s enjoying the music of Katharine McPhee’s Sister Adriana.  Her big night was at the Gardenia Room in Hollywood, CA.  Adriana looked beautiful and was amazing being joined by her Mom, Peisha McPhee for two songs. Great Mom and Daughter harmonies!  Adriana really connects with her audience and is sassy and funny.  We really enjoyed her performance.  Loved it… Adriana!  If you’re in the Big Apple she has two more performances at the Metropolitan Room Wednesday and Thursday, March 4th and 5th.  Heads up… Kat has a guest star role on NYC CSI April 15th.  You won’t want to miss it!

American Idol Predictions

February 26th, 2009

I love predicting outcomes and this is something American Idol gives me the opportunity to do every week.  There are three websites that I always look at for fun that have been extremely accurate especially “The Zaba”as I like to call it:

Check it out -American Idol Voting Results – Season 7

When it gets to the final 12 they have been spot on in past years.  Last year before we left for the Finale… we checked “The Zaba” and they had posted it exactly the way it is today, check it out.  We knew that David Cook had won hours before the Finale.  Don’t ask me how they know, but they seem to know.

While Syesha’s parents were living with us last year… I would quietly check “The Zaba” every Wednesday morning.  Zelda Mercado, Syesha’s mom would fast, pray and sing worship songs all day long on Tuesday.  It was amazing… Syesha was in the bottom 2 every week, but the prayers of her Mama were a powerful and mighty tool.  It was a little weird when the Wednesday I checked “The Zaba” and Syesha’s picture had become black and white and the words “Voted Off” were across her picture, it was surreal, knowing “The Zaba” is never wrong and that she was probably going home.  Again they were right.  It helped me know how to pray that day!  Sitting next to Jason’s family the day “The Zaba” said he would be voted off, helped prepare all of us.

Will “The Zaba” ever be wrong… yet to see.

The second site is AOL, this is a little less accurate and you get to move people around like an American Idol game or Jigsaw Puzzle, but they give you the opportunity to pick and have an opinion in the comfort of your own home.  During this season they are letting you submit who you think will be in the top 3 each week.  Last week I put Danny, Alexis and Enoop and that is how most of America had voted, I felt good about myself, but it was wrong, but probably will prove to put Enoop in the Wild Card mix.  I do like the guy who made it in.  He seems like a great guy with a cute little family and I like his voice.  So this week I put Adam, Allison and Nick (gotta hear that guy again…such a crack up) and he is on Vote For The Worst…America has picked Adam, Allison and Megan.  So even though AOL is not as accurate and you can vote as many times as you like they still seem to get it right most of the time and it’s fun to play.  So play at:  American Idol Poll – AOL Television

The third site is Vote for the Worst  This has become quite a phenomena of bad taste, but does have a huge following and has seemed to have made a difference in the past. Remember Sanjaya he was on it for weeks, even Taylor Hicks was their pick all the way to the end.  It’s kind of become a badge of honor actually.

My closest and longest friend Leslie Doud lives in Arizona and gets the New York feed and I love her for that.  So the days I have not been at the show she calls me with results so I know three hours before we get it here in CA.  I have found “others” do not want to know and get very irritated if I even give a hint.  I’m finding, this is my joy and that very few others like to know ahead of time.  So if your like me and want to know or play the game I have given you the tools.  Have fun!

Happy Birthday Jamar Rogers!

February 26th, 2009

First AI Assignment has arrived via a beautiful phone call from Jamar Rogers Mom Danielle Rogers.  She is an amazing Godly woman who raised an amazing Godly son.  Her wish was for Jamar, who is now living in Los Angeles, to come home to Wisconsin for his 27th Birthday.  Done deal!  His church family and friends have not seen him since his disappointment of not making the final 36 and they are so excited to see him and give him a big hug!  Many B-Day Parties are planned around town, so get ready Jamar for a fantastic greeting.  What a joy and privilege it is to be a part of of seeing a huge family reunion come together.

Jamar will be back in town next week, working on a music release with Frankie, another top 50 contestant.  Next weekend Denny and I are going to go speed church hopping with him in hopes of finding a church family here in CA where he can be supported and feel right at home.  Have a safe trip Jamar…God bless you and your family!

My KA DNA Blog

February 23rd, 2009… check out our Ministry website.

Contact me at

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future!

I could never before reconcile having a blog that spoke of our Ministry, but still weaved in my own personal daily Kingdom Assignments… and finally I have reconciled it with this blog.  It’s my fingerprint, my DNA, my Kingdom Assignment DNA, My KA DNA.  It is what I am about. How I put God first in my life, for I am Second, He is first.  My life, my purpose is to give God glory!  I am “On Assignment” daily, many times a day and so are you.  You have your own personal KA DNA, different than mine.  It coincides perfectly with your life journey.  I love football, but I didn’t just love it one day.  It came about after my Brother was killed by a drunk driver and I tried to comfort my Dad by becoming interested in boy things, giving me the opportunity to hang with my Dad.  And slowly, but surely I became to love the rules of football.  So when you see my Fantasy Football trophy at the bottom of this page you will understand why that is a big deal to me.  We all have unique callings.  As believers they are called Kingdom Assignments…on earth as it is in Heaven.  Everything I do is ministry minded.  It may be frivolous to some, but in my heart it is all to be salt and light, where God plants me, to a world with great need.  A world that needs the salve that only Jesus can give. The fruits of the Spirit… Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control.  I am about to celebrate my 54th Birthday and this life has been such a grand journey of joy and pain, no different than anyone else.  Thankfully God is not done with me yet and He seems to continue to have surprises for me around every corner.  I thought my life was over and my dreams were goners when miraculously in 2006 God brought a ministry with the contestants of American Idol.  See our website for the details.  So every year… I repeat what I said the first year “Here I am Lord send me”.  I tell him I do not need to do this, but if it will bear fruit them I am “on it”, I will obey!  And poof I got my first assignment for the 2009 season this last Sunday… more to come on that.  Below is a pic of the AI site.  This is the one just for the contestants, but if you want to see the public one… go to:

AI Ministry

February 23rd, 2009

On Sunday, Shannon Gilbert came to church where Denny is now preaching at Coastline Church in Carlsbad.  Then lunch at the Broken Yoke with her younger sister Laurel.   Shannon is married to Jeff Gilbert who is on the road with the Band Kutless.  It was fun to see, for the first time, her cute apartment. Both her and Laurel are amazing dancers and instructors.  Shannon and Jeff will both be involved with the WELL DONE Awards… do I hear “drum solo”?  In July Shannon and Jeff got married and Denny served up the wedding vows :-)
