"Diane Miller"
June 8, 2009

Sitting in church that Sunday morning, I had no idea what to expect. I guess that was the whole idea. When the Pastor starting asking for people to come up and accept an assignment for god, may thoughts started running through my head. I was thinking, "What is this? Do I want to volunteer for something that I don't know anything about? Will my family or I be embarrassed if I go up there?" I hesitated, but then I told myself that I had been looking for a way to become more involved with God so I should go for it!

Since I received the $100 of God's money I have been searching for a project that would further God's name and help others at the same time.

After a lot of prayer and soul searching, I decided to attempt to raise money for the Neo-Natal Center at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. This decision was made because of the wonderful care and caring we experienced there when my granddaughter was born. She was two months early and only weighed 2 pounds and 1 ounce. Consequently, I called them and they indicated that they were trying to raise money to purchase DVD players and DVD's to help educate future parents and parents of premature babies in the Neo Natal Center. This education will be used to eliminate fear of the unknown for these people and possibly help them get through the processes.

Returning after spending winter in Texas, we attended church here on Easter Sunday instead of driving to Strawberry Point where we are members of the UMC. Yes, to our surprise it was not the traditional Easter service. Unlike the rest of you that had been versed on the Kingdom Assignment, we were not. As it sounded like a good program, we went forward and accepted the challenge.

"The Campus Commission"

Oakdale Covenant Church, Tuckeer, GA

Catherine Gilliard took the assignment and used her $100 to survey college students about how the church could minister to them. Gilliard discovered that students wanted the church newsletter, weekly sermon tapes, postal mail and devotional materials.

As a result of her survey, Gilliard launched what she calls "The Campus Commission." It is a ministry to college kids who are away form their home churches. She is sending out quarterly care packages that will give seven students "physical and spiritual food, including cakes, cookies, stamps, spiritual materials, CDs and other items. Her idea is already catching on as two other churches within the Southeast Conference have heard about the idea and are implementing it in their own ministries.

"Recycle a Bicycle"

June 8, 2009
First Baptist Church in Midland, MI

Chuck McCourt started something he called "Recycle a Bicycle" when he took on his Kingdom Assignment at First Baptist Church in Midland, MI. An avid cyclist, his intent was to find a few used bikes people no longer wanted in order to fix them up in time for Christmas. He was then going to distribute them to needy children. To date, Chuck has recruited a team of about 40 people from throughout the community and they have rehabilitated nearly 200, which have been given to children and to adults needing transportation. His $100 has grown to be worth thousands of dollars and the ministry has just begun.

Wow! Watch how God can multiply!

When one gentleman from our congregation turned his $100 into $1,000 by orchestrating a golf tournament in our community it was then turned into Wal-Mart gift cards. With a list in hand of needy families that we wanted to help for Christmas, I went to Walmart and purchased $1,000 worth of gift cards to be distributed among those families who are struggling with loss of jobs or medical issues that have created overwhelming financial needs, so your Kingdom Assignment project is making a huge difference for those families. It is enabling them to buy gifts for their children and food for their dinner to help to make their Christmas a little brighter."

November 23 Reports

Wow...more fun reports to read!! Here are some creative ways that God's love has been shared with God's people...

"I know of a single mother who is really struggling financially. On Sunday, she told me that she has $11.00 to last until she got paid on Thursday and she was out of gas. I gave her a $25.00 gas card so she could get to world and get her son to and from school." (cummulative total: 41 servers/234 served).

Trouble ~ Transition ~ Tension

Today is our conclusion to the Love Our Neighbor series. Walking through this scripture has left me permanently changed. My heart for people softened. This series brought with it the Kingdom Assignment. God gave us a chance to practice kindness, and goodness. He gave us a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus. He watched, as we loved our neighbor.

Kingdom Assignment

On April 16th the Manchester United Methodist Church congregation was presented with the Kingdom Assignment. Each member who came forward received $100.00, and three rules to follow. 1. To recognize that this was God's money. 2. To use it to extend his kingdom and 3. To report back in ninety days.
It has been 6 months and this is some of what has happened.

U.S. Alliance Church Partners with Mali Mission

"This is completely out of control," says Jill Ramirez, coleader of International Missions at Christ Community (Alliance) Church in Omaha, Nebraska, "and it is totally God." When the missions team approached the church board about approving a 1 million dollar fund-raising project to support the Alliance mission of the Koutiala Hospital for Women and Children in Mali, West Africa, board members were skeptical about the exorbitant amount but approved the project.
The missions team had been investigating the possibility of partnering with an overseas mission. "Although we focus on missions once a year," Ramirez says, "we have never supported a specific project. Then we met Jeff and Carrie Amstutz."

What Kind of Difference Can $100 Make?

TOPEKA, KS (January 23, 2004) - What do you get when you take $3,300
and give it to your parishioners $100 at a time?

At Brookwood Covenant Church, the answer is a "kingdom assignment"
that is changing the lives of people inside and outside the church
walls. A southern California congregation's stewardship of $10,000
became a best-selling book in 2001 entitled The Kingdom Assignment.
Using that experience as a model, Brookwood Covenant gave 33 people
money with instructions to better their world - and better it they
did, creating stories in the process that glorify God and his
goodness.
