James
“James” was not usually one to enthusiastically hand out money to the needy. However, when the Kingdom Assignment came along, it made him think about the fact that none of what he called “his own” really was. He took seriously the challenge to invest the money for God, but didn’t immediately know what he should use it for.
Then one day, while he was on a trip to Columbus, “James” came across a man in his hotel who was down on his luck. He needed money to get to his destination. Usually “James” would have written this off as another “panhandler”, and walked away, but this time, “James” figured it was God telling him to step out on faith. He gave the man enough money to drive to his destination and enough to feed his family on the trip. James’ buddy even matched the gift. The man was so grateful, there were tears in his eyes as James said “God bless you.”

U.S. Alliance Church Partners with Mali Mission
“This is completely out of control,” says Jill Ramirez, coleader
of International Missions at Christ Community (Alliance) Church in
Omaha, Nebraska, “and it is totally God.” When the missions team
approached the church board about approving a 1 million dollar
fund-raising project to support the Alliance mission of the Koutiala
Hospital for Women and Children in Mali, West Africa, board members
were skeptical about the exorbitant amount but approved the project.

"St. Bartholomew"

The results of the kingdom assignment were phenomenal. Without a
doubt the kingdom assignment had ignited a flame at St. Bartholomew.
Of those who had received the $100 bill, some knew right away what
they would do, while others were overwhelmed with the challenge of
God’s money.

I remember feeling several emotions as Chuck called for volunteers from the congregation. I was excited, nervous and eager. When he presented each of us with God's $100.00, my mind raced with opportunities. I knew I could figure out how to use the parable of the talents and multiply the money for God. I prayed that night that I would find a way to be faithful to Chuck's instructions. Those first
few days were about what "I could do." My focus changed after those first few days. What could God do with His money if I listened to Him and became His instrument? It wasn't about me; it was about Him. I felt I needed prayer help so I emailed 40 of my friends who are not members of Philadelphia.

Lorraine Gearhart
When Rev. Henry asked for persons to come to the altar to do God's work--do something for somebody, "step out of your comfort zone" I was compelled to rise and come forward. I had no idea what to expect. A "Kingdom Assignment" book was given to all who had responded, plus a $100.00 bill!! (Real Money!!) What a message! Questions came into my mind--what will I do? How can I make it grow? Will I be successful at what I attempt? Reading the "Kingdom Assignment" book opened my eyes to ideas.

"Danville church uses Pay It Forward film

PETE CROOKS AND LISA CECCONI
Every December, Diablo bestows Threads of Hope awards upon five outstanding community volunteers. Click here to read about this year’s honorees. And in the spirit of giving back to our community, I enjoyed reading this story from a former Diablo colleague, Lisa Cecconi, about her Danville church’s experiment, seemingly inspired by the Y2K film Pay It Forward. I can’t recommend that film (for fans of sentimental cinema, try David Lynch’s understated masterpiece The Straight Story instead), but read on to see how members of a Danville church turned an anonymous $1,500 donation into more than $20,000 worth of community service. Happy holidays!
